about

On-U Sound’s founding father, the legendary producer Adrian Sherwood marks the career of a label that has spent almost thirty years exploring the endless possibilities of dub music. He returns with a new album, ‘Survival and Resistance’, the final in his album ‘trio’, including 2003’s ‘Never Trust a Hippy’ and 2006’s ‘Becoming a Cliché’. The album as you'd expect is a dubbed out affair influenced by British soundsystem culture and made with the same kind of eager ear for experimentation that still sounds wholly relevant today. Dark and dread-filled atmospherics pour through every fissure as a strong sense of melody and rich patterns of instrumentation counteracts the dark. Ace.

about

Adrian Sherwood UK

Adrian Sherwood built up a vast catalogue of music through the 1980s via his productions for his own On-U Sound label, which emerged from a fertile post-punk scene that was embracing Jamaican rhythms. In his capacity as a DJ and live sound engineer/dub controller, he connected with the likes of The Clash, The Slits, and The Pop Group. He's gone onto work with everyone from Lee Perry to Blur. ... more
